Hurlburt Field Bx - HURLBURT FIELD, FLA. (PRESS RELEASE) - Officials at Hurlburt Field upgraded the public health status (HPCON) in Charley on January 14, 2021 in response to the current COVID-19 conditions.
"We are not making this decision lightly," said Air Force Col. Timothy Hood, deputy commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing. "Given the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in our region, it makes a lot of sense because ultimately we want to ensure the health and safety of our military and their families."

Hurlburt Field was initially converted to HPCON Charlie on March 25, 2020, but downgraded to HPCON Bravo on October 19, 2020.

HPCON Charlie indicates a severe disease threat and is in effect due to a local outbreak of disease, recent spread of such disease in a local area, and/or large area of contamination requiring special containment procedures.
Increasing the level of health protection affects many items and functions. Staff and residents should expect base facilities to reduce operations or reduce hours, depending on the circumstances. Additional information regarding reduced activity will be announced via official social media platforms and the main Hurlburt Field website.

All people in Hurlburt Square will continue to follow Ministry of Defense guidance and cover their faces with cloth, unless they are able to maintain a distance of six meters in public places or work centers. In addition, cloth face coverings must be worn when entering, exiting and passing through common areas in any building or establishment facility, including the Commissary, BX and Shoppette. There are no Amtrak stations near Florida Panhandle or Hurlburt Square. Alternatively, you can take a Greyhound bus from Fort Walton Beach and connect to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola and other major cities on the east and south coasts.
The closest airport to Hurlburt Field is Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. It is 15 miles from the front gates of Hurlburt Field. The airport is served by five major airlines (Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, Southwest and United Airlines) with daily direct or connecting flights.

On arrival, all permanently assigned personnel report to the Commando Welcome Center with copies of orders and receipts for travel vouchers. The Commando Welcome Center is the only new commando welcome center at Hurlburt Field. Upon arrival, incoming members will be accompanied by a sponsor to an appointment at the Hurlburt Welcome Center. New arrivals are informed about programs, supports and services available on base from various agencies.
The Hurlburt Field DEERS office is an appointment based system. Notify DEERS of marriage, divorce, birthday or death. You can also renew or issue your CAC/ID cards. Click here to schedule an appointment.
Hurlburt Field Commissary lets you save your hard-earned money when you shop at the commissary. The store's amenities and specialties include an ATM, bakery, deli, sushi, takeout and other options.

Hurlburt Field Base Exchange offers health and beauty care, gadgets, electronics, toys and more. There are also ATMs, DVD rentals and 24-hour petrol pumps.
There is a barber shop at the base. It is open Monday to Saturday from 0900 to 1700 and Sunday from 1000 to 1500. Please call for more information.
The official mail center is open Monday through Friday from 0900 to 1630 and is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays. Express and certified mail services are available, as well as mailboxes for rent.
The Hurlburt Field Finance Office is open Monday through Friday from 0800 to 1600. The office has resources to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one counseling to help your family prepare financially, from from basic planning to long-term investments.

The Legal Aid Office at Hurlburt Field provides legal advice and assistance to eligible clients, including military personnel, retirees and dependents with military ID. Want to visit the office to draft a will or handle other legal documents such as powers of attorney, living wills, promissory notes, promissory notes, leases, name changes, uncontested divorces and more. There are several towns near Hurlburt Square including Fort Walton Beach, Ocean City and Wright. Many people who live in Hurlburt Field choose to live in Fort Walton because it offers many residential options, family-friendly attractions and a short commute to work.
Fort Walton Beach is a small city of over 20,000 residents near Hurlburt Square in the Florida Panhandle. It is famous for its white sand beaches, emerald waters and beautiful golf courses on neighboring Okaloosa Island. The city has family resorts and things like parks, museums and aquariums. The island's Gulfarium marine adventure park is home to dolphins, penguins and alligators.
The Fort Walton Beach suburb of Ocean City has a population of approximately 6,300. It is part of the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview-Destin Metropolitan Statistical Area and has grown over the past decade. The census-designated place was ranked as one of the best places to live in Okaloosa County for its quality schools, affordable housing and diversity.

There are many opportunities for your child to learn near Hurlburt Field. The state offers traditional public schools as well as public charter schools and private schools. There are a variety of local daycare centers and childcare programs for younger children. Children living on base attend schools in the Okaloosa or Santa Rosa school districts. There are no DoDEA schools on base.

Florida is known for its mild winters and hot, humid summers. During the winter, average highs are in the 60s and average lows are in the 40s. Summer averages can reach highs in the 80s and lows in the 90s, with lows in the 70s. NAS Pensacola receives 60 inches of rain annually.
